John Lennon and Yoko Ono Proof Sheet - 1980

Jack Mitchell photographed John Lennon and Yoko Ono on November 2, 1980 – and it turned out to be a historic session. The assignment was for The New York Times to illustrate a feature article about the Lennon’s new album “Double Fantasy”. It was the first time in five years that Lennon had been photographed professionally, and as it turned out, the last comprehensive photo session of his life.

This limited edition is a 17” x 22” photographic enlarged print of a session proof sheet with John and Yoko’s markings made November 3, 1980 in grease pencil indicating their selections for publication – the only time The New York Times has ever allowed a subject photo approval.

Tragically, just weeks later Lennon was murdered. Within hours Mitchell was inundated with picture requests. His photos from the session ran worldwide and his color photograph on the cover of People magazine's memorial issue became the top seller of that magazine until their 1997 Princess Diana memorial issue.

This is an edition of 100, each individually numbered and bearing the estate embossed seal.
